Why Star Wars Has Technology Gaps: My Inner Nerd comes up with an explanation...

I rarely flaunt my nerdish ways, especially over the net. However I heard the same thing brought up four times in one week, and it dawned on me, the perfect argument for the case. This blog is not for all, some people should click away, save them some time,

Now first things first. I fucking Love—repeat—LOVE! Star Wars. I’m pretty sure there is a significant population on this planet who can agree with me, I also feel that there is also a significant majority within that population who also feels that the last three Star Wars Movies were a complete and utter failure…

Well…I can’t argue with that. I may not go as far as say complete and utter failures, I felt that each episode had something for everyone, even though it’s a pretty small something…wait a minute, this argument has nothing to do with the movies, I’m trying to point something out for the super prequels…

That’s right, I’m talking about KOTOR, Knights of the Old Republic, and the two games that followed, Sith Lords, and the soon to come out Old Republic. (Old Republic looks fucking sexy as hell by the way). But the primary thing in question I heard brought up four times this week was that—and I quote— “How annoying and inconsistent it is that the further back you go in the star wars universe history, the technology improves…”

NIEN!!!!!!!!! NIEN NIEN NIEN NEIN!!!! Annoying? possibly, for most. Inconsistent? well of course. Impossible? HELL NIEN!!!!!!!
And this is where I get even nerdier to the point where the common god fearing, diehard, cos-player nerd would want to avoid me and this topic like the fucking vong plague. (Had to be said, I’m letting my nerdish side out for a breather after all.)

So getting back to the topic, it was discussed how star wars universe seems to get better in tech the farther it goes back in time, and how dumb this was. Well let me point out a real life example from the history books. ( this is the point where people start to click away from the screen, do it now, Save your self!).

Back in the day, some 1800 years ago, there was this large, empire known as the Roman Empire. The Romans have been around since the 500BCs, starting as a insignificant town, turning into a large city that controlled the entire Mediterranean Sea, as well as all of western Europe and half of Britain, (and if Marcus Licinius Crassus had his way it would have extended into India, and who knows from there…hmmm, good story concept…DIBS!).

Now let’s focus on the war machine, and lets pick a date at random, say 180AD, (because that’s when the movie Gladiator is suppose to take place…even though Gladiator isn’t entirely accurate…historically that is… the Roman Army was in the business of kicking ass and business was booming, their standard line foot soldier had an armament of a Short Sword, known as a Gladius Liberius, a heavy square shield, and a heavy set of armor that was either leather with metal bands over it, using the leather to reinforce it, and a heavy javelin or Pilum, that they would launch at their enemies before charging at them or before they got close enough to charge. These guys were Italian bad asses! They would literally rape any grizzled, hairy barbarian who wanted to fuck with them, and they did and they liked it!

Now fast-forward 300 years! Rome was a shit hole! Their army was in shambles, and their lands in decay. Mainly due to, political BS, corruption, religious malarkey, and cheep-skate emperors, who would rather slightly arm a band of barbarians who would fight for them, who already had decent arms and fighting skills, and just needed money food and supplies, rather than paying money for a large full time professional army. And the so called “Legionaries” who were around at this time, was…well…retty much armed with the same thing…sword…shields looked different, but they did the job…and they had chain shirts instead of the heavy leather and metal armor the legionaries before would have. But it wasn’t the powerful ass kicking legion it was 300 years earlier, a pissed off ill equipped band of degenerates could push these pussies over…and they did…several times…and they liked it!

And when Rome finally kicked the bucket, leaving a massive power vacuum, and thus leading Europe into what was known as THE DARK AGES!!! (que dramatic doom music… an age of relative loss of information and knowledge and wisdom that lead to the deaths of millions and low standard of living for millions more, and it lasted for almost a thousand years, until Europeans got wise and realized that they can make something that didn’t necessarily serve a military purpose as opposed to a cultural and scientific one…no matter how un-cool/entertaining it was….

NOW! Getting back to the star wars, (for all of those who are still reading) we have learned how a society can collapse and in its wake death, turmoil and dumbassery, (say it with me now; DUMB-ASS-ERR-RE, good job) can ensue in its wake. So since there is little on the subject of the stuff that has happened between KOTOR, (err Old Republic rather) has been documented, or dramatized in a game or comic book, (or because I’m to fucking lazzy to sift through the thousands of lines on Wookieepedia that pertines to this argument) it is possible to conceive there was a massive war, or social collapse, (something we may see in OR (that’s right I’m coining OR for Old Republic, if it has been done already then fuck you for stealing it from me..)) that lead to a massive lose in technology, knowledge, and wisdom, and that is why there is a tech gap…

Now I have wasted your time…we have learned a little something about the Roman Empire and the Dark ages, if I got something wrong in my bullshit, I can source the books I’m pulling from for this blog, take it up with them…I also mainly wrote this so I can add something to my Journal Entry, that wasn’t little stuff and also because I’m putting off drawing or writing and homework, im also still debating with myself weather or not to choose Sith or Republic…both have appealing qualities… so questions comments, complaints, criticisms...hate speech…feel free to tear it apart… I’m going to the grocery store…
